There have probably been numerous posts about famine and monk but the builds we use here are slightly different.

Here are the Ranger attributes and skill bar

Attributes:-
Smiting Prayers - 3
Beast Mastery - 9 + Minor Rune
Expertise - 9 + Minor Rune
Wilderness Survival - 12 + Wilderness Survival Mask + Superior Rune.

Skills are as follows:-

Famine
Edge of Extinction
Barbed trap
Vipers nest
Serpents Quickness
Throw Dirt
Watchfull Spirit
Balthasar Spirit

Weapon sets:-
Staff for energy/wand and offhand.
Bow isnt needed.

Idea is to Cast the 2 maintainable enchantments on the monk.
When the monk aggros you place the spirits. Then when you feel comfortable place traps behind the monk. If you get attacked cast throw dirt then run away. Serpents quickness is for the traps. For anymore help watch this video.

I don't get why people say Famine is faster than SS. I can kill the aatxes way faster with my SS than what I see in the video...... way faster.

Famine -> Faster on huge mobs
SS -> Faster on slow mobs
Both -> Evens out in the longterm view

Has been discussed to death before yet still some folks insist on SS being all over superior *shrugs*. Sort of like some Wa/Mos still insist on taking Mending.

I'll second that.

Also with famine the smites never have any energy to heal themselves where as with ss you re limited to energy denial and hexes.

Famine doest not cause smites to lose energy, SV does that. Any half-decent SS will carry SV/AV too. Try smite hex with no energy.

Both are good in their own way, and both has e-denial.

If I was going to use a 55 monk for a tank, and use the regular r/me for famine laying+ setting visages on me, what would be a good tank build for it?

I would be guessing SoA, prot spirit, spellbreaker, healing breeze?, mending, blessed aura, balths spirit then something else for added support?

Also, how would the attributes best be set?

Sorry but adding one last thing. Do you think it's better to use the r/mo for extra enchantments, or have them be r/me and use the visages for you while you use your own enchants.

Would it also be possible for the ranger to go ahead and switch throw dirt, for essence bond to keep up energy for trapping and spirits etc.
